A little bit about me and my store

I thought I’d take a moment to share a bit of information about me and my store, as I don’t think I’ve ever really spoken about it too much!

So, a little introduction first of all. My name is Leonie as most of you will already know, and I just turned 28 last week. Since I was about 12/13 I’ve suffered with really bad depression and anxiety which has made it tough for me to work full time, nevertheless I always have done. I’d gone from one miserable job to another always leaving and moving onto something else when my health got bad. This year, I finally said enough is enough! I knew something had to change because I was so unhappy but I didn’t want to not work because I like to keep busy and contribute to my house and bills. I always knew I’d like to do something to do with books, but what...?

Candles are one of my biggest passions and I’ve always hoarded them along with books, so it made sense to put the two ideas together. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, having never made a candle before, but I found that it came quite naturally to me. The most important things for me about making candles was that they were ethical (all the ingredients I use are vegan friendly & cruelty free), that they smelt great and that they burnt cleanly and evenly (I’m sure I’m not the only one fed up with tunnelling and black marks on glass).

After around 2 months i’d made my first lot of candles, tested them and perfected the labels to look how I wanted and I was ready to go.

I’ll be honest that I never expected to do as well as I have done. You guys have been incredible with your support and love not just for my candles but for me too! I’ve made some great new friends, had 2 awesome rep teams and an absolutely amazing set of customers.

I still have days which are hard for me, the days I don’t make any sales are tough, because this is my full time job now if I don’t make a sale I don’t get paid that day. The days are long and hard work, sometimes I’m still making candles at midnight! I have so many ideas so even on quiet days I’m always working on something! But you know something? Every single one of those hard working, long days makes me smile. Every message you guys send to say how much you love my candles, how much you appreciate the personal touch I give every order, it takes my breath away. Having my own small business is literally a dream come true. So this post, really, isn’t about me, it’s about you guys who have welcomed me into the bookstagram community, supported and encouraged me and helped me to finally, after 16 years be in a place where my health is manageable and I can do something I love.

Thank you xx
